the Day of the Child
Since 1925, Día del niño, or the Day of the Child, has grown as an annual celebration throughout Mexico. This day recognizes children, pays homage to their importance in society, and endorses their well-being.
Activities & Festivities
Many celebrations in Mexico take part throughout the streets with parades, magicians, musicians, storytellers and entertainers populating children’s favorite hangout spots. They celebrate at school most often canceling classes, the malls, the movies, water and amusement parks.
“El Dia del Niño” or “Day of the Child”, a celebration that originated in Mexico and dates back to 1925, is celebrated each year on April 30th.

Niño or niña, muchacho or muchacha, and chico or chica are the most common words used in Spanish to refer to children. In traditional Spanish, masculine plural forms such as niños are used to refer to groups of children that include boys and girls.
